Welcome to the Department of Dermatology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. We are delighted to share with you the activities of our dynamic department!
We offer services at a number of outpatient sites in Madison, including the UW American Family Children's Hospital and UW Health Transformations, as well as in the transplant and melanoma clinics located in the university hospital. We also care for veterans at the Middleton VA, for UW students in the University Health Service, and consult on hospitalized patients at UW and Meriter hospitals. Last year, we began a telemedicine program at the VA and will begin a similar pilot at UW Health shortly.
Our innovative research programs in both clinical and basic science address a variety of problems focusing on targets and agents for cancer chemoprevention and treatment, molecular mechanisms of cancer development, molecular diagnosis of skin diseases, clinical trials testing novel treatments and translational research investigating genetic correction of skin diseases. In 2014, the Department established the UW Skin Diseases Research Center becoming one of only six NIH sponsored Centers of its kind nationwide.
Our educational programs reach a broad spectrum of learners including: practicing physicians in the local community and across the region; Procedural Dermatology Fellows in our board-certified training program; dermatology residents in two distinct ACGME accredited programs; and medical students being introduced to dermatology.
